Eyebrow trimming – why do we categorically advise against it?

Eyebrows have a completely different structure than the hair on your head. They belong to the group of bristly hairs, which are thin, inelastic, and rather inelastic. In practice, you should avoid trimming your eyebrows for three simple reasons.

  1. Trimming thick eyebrow hairs can result in them becoming distorted, for example, during styling at a professional salon.
  2. Due to the conical structure of the hair, a trimmed eyebrow will look like a blunt stump. This means that the final trimmed eyebrows may lose their aesthetic appeal and will no longer look natural.
  3. Trimming your eyebrows can cause them to thin significantly and also change their color.

Usually, after trimming your eyebrows, the results are satisfactory… but only for a few days. After this time, the hair grows back uneven and problematic, and the delicate-looking eyebrows undergo a complete change.

Eyebrow thinning – a good way to avoid problematic trimming

Now that you know that trimming your eyebrows has nothing to do with a properly performed cosmetic procedure, how can you control your eyebrows? A good method is thinning using the right hair removal tools. This way, you remove hair from the inside of the eyebrows. This loosens the hairs and ultimately allows for perfectly smooth transitions.

However, the thinning procedure requires experience and focus. Only offer this service to your clients if you have already completed training and know exactly how to properly perform eyebrow hair removal inside the body.

In practice, the thinning procedure works as follows:

  1. You start with the longest and thickest hairs in the growth phase. You pluck a few of them, then comb your eyebrows and see what the results are.
  2. Be careful on the lower and upper edges of your eyebrows to avoid plucking hairs in places where gaps could become visible.
  3. You should comb each hair before plucking. This is the only way to achieve satisfactory results.

When styling your eyebrows by thinning, you must above all be careful not to overdo it. This will have the opposite effect to your intended effect. To ensure the thinning effects last for up to 5-6 weeks, try to perform the procedure precisely and without rushing.

Did you know that trimming your eyebrows with a razor damages the hair and makes them look unsightly? If you haven't had much experience with eyebrow styling before, you may not have come across this tip yet.

Why isn't it worth trying mechanical eyebrow trimming? Summary

There are many negative effects of trimming your eyebrows with scissors or electric razors. In addition to the obvious aesthetic reasons, trimming will cause:

  • problems with hair regrowth,
  • in extreme cases, skin irritation and infections,
  • irregular hair coloring.

If you want to care for your eyebrows or those of your clients, under no circumstances should you mechanically trim them – even if someone strongly encourages you to do so. Alternative eyebrow care methods that bring satisfactory results include waxing, threading, or even microblading.

Regardless of the eyebrow styling method you choose, any will be better than trying to change their appearance by trimming.
