Tweezers for eyelash extensions - how does it affect the way eyelashes are styled?

The origins of eyelash styling in Poland date back to 2005. At that time there were only two types of tweezers available on the market. The most popular were those made of Norwegian steel - electromechanical components were made of it. The first tweezers available on the market were extremely durable, but were not as precise as the models available today.

Tweezers for 1:1 eyelash extensions - what were they in the past, and what are they now?

The first 1:1 eyelash extension tweezers on the market were heavy and not very flexible. This meant that the material did not yield to bending under the pressure of the stylist's hand. This caused considerable problems in precise lash styling, especially with extremely thin synthetic lashes.

Artificial eyelashes available on the market in the past, came in thicknesses of 0.25, 0.30 mm. For such thicknesses, Norwegian steel tweezers worked perfectly. Until a few years ago, eyelash stylists did not work with such a high frequency. This meant that heavier tweezers did not cause pain in the wrist over time.

Today, the tweezers sold are considered models: ultra-lightweight, ultra-precise and extremely sharp. Unfortunately, this affects the durability of the equipment. Any fall on the floor can cause the tweezers for eyelash styling, simply lose their properties.

How many tweezers should an eyelash stylist have?

Many stylists these days have plenty of tweezers in their toolbox. Nevertheless, the vast majority of eyelash extension specialists use only one. What is the reason for this? Well, the hand of the stylist gets used to a certain pressure - just like tweezers.

More often than not, a brand-new eyelash tweezers seem to have little precision. This is not due to a design error, but to the stylist's lack of getting used to the new tool. Each eyelash requires a different grip and power of pressure. That's why professional stylists should spend hours on training and practical exercises to master the use of tweezers to perfection.

How to choose tweezers for eyelash styling? Rarity's guide

  • Straight tweezers - this is the standard when it comes to lash separation. A good straight tweezers should be long. This makes the possibility of free rotation of the tip of the tweezers much greater. The span of the blade is also crucial. A well-calibrated tweezer should not exceed a spacing of 1 centimeter.
  • Curved tweezers - this is a model of tweezers that will be perfect for sticking false eyelashes. Alternatively, you can use it for separation, although here much depends on your experience and preference.

How to choose the ideal tweezers for eyelash styling and extensions? You can do this by considering several parameters:

  • the weight of the tweezers,
  • the length of the blade and the entire device,
  • the way of grip,
  • the contact points of the blade,
  • the span of the arms.

It is also worth mentioning that heavier tweezers are much more precise. Working on particular models primarily requires many hours of practice, as well as training. Of course, you should start your adventure with eyelash styling from choosing the right type of tweezers. Only later you will need additional knowledge, such as how to properly hold the tweezers in your hand.

How to place your hand on the tweezers?

Correct placement of fingers on the tweezers is key. Each model has a characteristic constriction where the thumb should be located. It should be applied in such a way that the other fingers rest on the tweezers like a wall. It is the thumb that determines the power of pressure on the blades and the ability to completely close the tip of the device.

If the thumb is not in the right position or you release the pressure during styling, the arms of the tweezers may gently tilt. This unfortunately makes eyelash styling sometimes problematic.

A good example is the hoof-type tweezers, where the stylist can afford a certain limit of error. This is a fairly hard model of tweezers that is considered single-clamp. This means that when pressed, the full space of the blade closes. Such styling accessories require much less pressure than the multi-blade ones.

Eyelash styling vs tweezers - summary.

The most important thing in eyelash styling is experience, manual skills and properly matched accessories. A well-chosen type of tweezers is half the battle when it comes to eyelash extensions. This will help you avoid the risk of pain in your fingers or wrist, avoid ragging your false eyelashes and create perfect clumps in your clients.

What's more, the right technique for gluing the false eyelashes is key. It is a good idea to keep the individual clumps about half a millimeter from the blade. This gives you the assurance that nothing happens to the glued clump. Even the slightest tilt of the blade can cause the eyelashes to open and it will be virtually impossible to fix such a situation.
