Artificial eyelashes and eye irritation - causes and prevention

Performing effective eyelash styling requires years of practice, but also periodic training. Only then will you minimize the risk of making styling mistakes that result in complaints, negative feedback from clients, and the loss of a positive image of your practice. Are you worried that an eyelash styling procedure will irritate your client's eyes? In this article you will find some practical tips to help you prevent this problem.

Eye irritation during eyelash styling - what does it result from?

The phenomenon of eye redness can have various causes, and it will not necessarily be the result of performing eyelash styling. Nowadays our eyes are simply overworked and inadequately moisturized. Watching TV for hours on end, constantly sitting at a smartphone screen and heavy air pollution are all factors that can cause redness and excessive eye fatigue.

The artificial eyelash styling procedure can cause slight irritation and dryness of the mucous membrane of the eye, but only if done incorrectly. Problems also arise when clients' eyes tend to be irritated.

Red eyes and eyelash styling - what should a stylist know?

As an eyelash stylist, you should schedule your clients for the earliest possible time. Why? Well, in the afternoons, your clients' eyes can be severely overworked, and this results in frequent redness and uncomfortable irritation. By performing styling in the morning, the risk of irritation is much lower.

Here are some tips to help you reduce the feeling of eye irritation for your client:

  • use professional cosmetics and accessories for eyelash styling,

  • carefully protect eyelids, so as not to cause corneal burn, for example,

  • take care of gentle intensity of light - too strong lamp will cause drying and irritation of the eye,

  • take care of adequate air humidity in the office.

If you have the opportunity, try to pamper the client's eyelid skin and eyelashes, for example, by using a moisturizing shampoo. Also remember to choose only safe and preferably hypoallergenic eyelash styling products.

Note: For extremely sensitive clients, try not to use hydrogel pads. Alternatively, you can use specialized tape to secure the lower lash.

Eyelash styling vs. client recommendations - when to propose a service?

Even at the stage of arranging an eyelash styling service with your clients, you can take care to reduce the risk of eye irritation. Offer the service when the client is able to come for the styling fully rested. This minimizes the risk of eye irritation and redness.

If a client wants to make an appointment for eyelash styling, offer her the earliest possible hours. Also ask about her work mode. When you know that the person works many hours in front of a computer every day and does not care about moisturizing the mucous membrane of the eye - offer the service on the weekend. Then the eyes will be a little more rested, and the risk of irritation will be practically zero.

Conduct an interview with your client and ask about how she feels and the health of her eyes. If the mucous membranes are already irritated, performing eyelash styling can cause more serious problems.

Moisturizing the eyes after eyelash styling - this is something to remember!

Perfectly performed service is not the only factor that affects the satisfaction of clients of an eyelash styling salon. If you are already in the business of attaching false eyelashes, try to take care of the health and well-being of your clients. After the procedure, suggest using eye moisturizers.

Once irritation sets in, unfortunately you won't be able to help your client. If the redness does not subside and the pain is getting worse, it is best to contact a doctor. As a preventive measure for irritated eyes after eyelash styling, you can use eyelid spray or standard eye drops.

Red eyes after artificial eyelash gluing procedures are extremely common. However, this does not at all mean that you have made a mistake in the art. Most often, the source of the problem is clients' sensitive and tired eyes, and it's a good idea to inform them about this before the service begins. This will help you avoid possible client disappointment and problematic complaints.
